Probing in the dark
Article Abstract:
The collection of intelligence, information and data as a foundation for knowledge is a highly challenging area of the competitive intelligence process in industrial markets. It is important to ascertain the type of information to be collected, including hard fact, tacit information, circumstantial evidence and rumours. Competitor and third party sources should be collected and an internal audit should be conducted within the client firm to identify its intelligence needs. A meta process incorporating various techniques should be developed for competitive intelligence.

Television viewing and programme appreciation
Article Abstract:
The European Broadcasting Union concludes that the issues of television viewing and programme appreciation are the two most important aspects left unresolved in peoplemeter research. Peoplemeter panels measure television set usage, but are unable to assess the quality of viewing. The efficacy of peoplemeters as a research method is analysed, with reference to US, Dutch and Norwegian studies of peoplemeter panels.
