Profiteering in the aisles?
Article Abstract:
The UK Office of Fair Trading (OFT) may release, in Jan 1999, its findings on profits in the UK's four biggest supermarket chains. The pressure for the investigation came from supermarket suppliers who were concerned about the difference between the prices they received from supermarkets and the prices being charged in the shops. However, the OFT has taken more interest in whether consumers are paying high prices in order to maintain profits for shareholders. Supermarket representatives maintain that the industry has always operated with low margins.

Netting your goods
Article Abstract:
The leading UK supermarkets have not yet made a firm commitment to home shopping, even though there would appear to be considerable potential for growth in this area. The lack of precision in the time of delivery is one barrier to the expansion of internet home-shopping services. Furthermore, some retailers may be unwilling to offer full-scale home-shopping services until they are able to gauge the impact of digital interactive television.
