Professor joins the fray over Hong Kong's identity
Article Abstract:
Yale University professor Helen Siu believes that the 1997 Chinese takeover of Hong Kong will bring an end to the colony's unique vitality and freewheeling way of life. Siu states that Hong Kong can preserve its culture by maintaining its present links with the outside world. She also advocates a better understanding of China's communist government an its methods. Siu, however, is pessimistic about post-1997 Hong Kong's ability to preserve its identity.

More than most, journalism students reflect Hong Kong's uncertain future
Article Abstract:
Many journalism and communication majors of the class of 1997 at the Chinese University of Hong Kong are becoming more skeptical about their future as Hong Kong's transition draws nearer. Much of their uncertainty is caused by the possible changes in Hong Kong's way of life, especially the loss of press freedom. For these students, losing press freedom is a major concern because this could have a direct implication on their prospects for employment.
