US law firm Skadden Arps acted as legal advisers on 5 UK deals worth 3.6 billion pounds sterling in 1997, showing increased committment to activities outside the USA. The largest deal being the 1.5 billion pounds sterling take over of Yorkshire Electricity by the Public Service Company of Colorado. Head of European mergers and acquisitions Bruce Buck began his career with Skadden Arps by setting up the Tokyo office in 1986, followed by an office in London in 1988. Buck believes in his firms strategy of offering value for money by employing people with expertise in their particular fields.

PAI tops CVC's perfect package
Article Abstract:
Paribas Affaires Industrielles invested in three buyouts worth a total of $1.03 billion in continental Europe in 1998, making it the top lead equity arranger for that year. It was followed by CVC, which co-led the buyout of Dutch firm Kappa Packaging, the largest buyout to have been undertaken in Europe in 1998. Apax Partners, in third place, invested in four deals worth a total of $515 million, while Electra Fleming made 10 continental European investments at a total value of $422 million.
