Promises, promises
Article Abstract:
There could be some 43 million people in the US with no health insurance, with an increasing number of people aged between 55-years-old and 65-year-old lacking such insurance. An increase in the Medicare age-limit to 67-years-old leaves younger people with no protection. The Medicare system is under financial pressure, with the Part A trust fund likely to be depleted by 2008. A system involving vouchers has been suggested, but it is not certain that this would provide a solution.

Article Abstract:
House Republicans have voted for a healt insurance bill which is similar to one that they previously vetoed, and which aims to guarantee access for emergency treatment and set national standards. Support has come for the bill from both mian parties. Physicians teamed up with labor unions and Democrats in the debate. Meanwhile, 16.3% of the US population lacked health insurance in 1998, or over 44 million Americans, a figure that is rising.
