Protherm Ceske Budejovice
Article Abstract:
Protherm (Ceske Budejovice, Czech Republic), pendant gas boiler manufacturer, expects its turnover to increase by 15-20% in 2000 compared to 726 mil Kc in 1999. Besides, the firm should supply 11,000 boilers to the UK in 2000 compared to 5,500 pieces in 1999. The company will start to export gas boilers under the trade mark Biasi to Italy shortly. Protherm's production plant in Skalice, Slovakia, which produced 40,000 boilers in 1999, is not able to cover demand. That is why Protherm bought and reconstructed another plant in Skalice. The plant was commissioned in January 2000. Its capacity is 80,000 boilers per year during one-shift operation and 160,000 boilers per year during two-shift operation. The plant will produce mainly boilers intended for the western markets under the trade mark Saunier Duval. The firm's entrance to the western markets has been allowed by its strategical partner, the concern Hepworth Saunier Duval (UK/France). Protherm exports to 17 countries. Apart from EU countries, it exports to Slovakia and eastern countries, mainly Russia, the Ukraine, Lithuania and Belarus.

Ceske Drahy
Article Abstract:
Ceske drahy (CD) (Prague, Czech Republic), Czech Railways, have arranged an amendment to the contract with the consortium CKD-Fiat-Siemens. According to the amendment, new express trains for CD will not be produced by CKD Dopravni systemy (Czech Republic) but Fiat Ferroviaria (Italy). The amendment to the original contract arranged in 1995 also reduced the number of the seven-coach sets from 10 to seven for the original price of 4.37 bil Kc. The delivery term was postponed by three years to 2003. Reasons for the step were CKD's financial troubles and the firm's inability to produce aluminium bodies for the trains with swinging bodies of the system Pendolino. A decision on the financing of the project should be made by the middle of November 1999.
