Publisher with a cause
Article Abstract:
Publisher Andreas Papadakis has returned to architectural publishing. Papadakis, who has specialized in this subject area in the past with the Academy Editions imprint and 'AD' journal, is to launch a new imprint and a new journal 'New Architecture.' Cyprus-born Papadakis has always been interested in promoting debate on architectural theory. He appreciates Classical architecture but denies that he has had a particular mission to promote Post-Modernism. He maintains that his new journal will be inclusive. Papadakis also plans to launch a new architectural forum.

A smash hit played on four drums
Article Abstract:
The design for the National Centre for Popular Music in Sheffield, England, works extremely well architecturally. It resembles four steel drums which tilt slightly outwards towards the street. Each drum has a rotating cowl. The centre, designed by Branson Coates Architecture, looks firmly entrenched in its site, and its relationship with the surrounding area is a positive one. The ground-level interior space has a street-like feel and the upper galleries offer the opportunity to experience pop rather than follow a rigid educational tour.

Putting housing back on London's political map
Article Abstract:
Joseph Rykwert, the classical architect who is renowned for his work with architectural history, believes that modern architects deliver poor standard work because they fail to consider the broader issues of classical design. Rykwert's book, The Dancing Column, demonstrates his wide range of knowledge surrounding the history of the human race. He argues that building designs should not just reflect practical or decorative use, but should achieve balance and character.
