Puzzle and paradox in Paris faubourgs
Article Abstract:
The exhibition Paris Des Faubourgs examines the development of the Paris faubourgs since the 1500s. The faubourgs are the buildings of urban Paris, situated outside the original city walls. Some were urban slums and some were medieval villages, with many being inhabited by artisans, immigrants and shopkeepers. The story of the faubourgs, past and present, is illustrated at the exhibition through photographs, maps, text and plans.

More than merely a designer of chairs
Article Abstract:
An exhibition of the work of architect Gerrit Thomas Rietveld at the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, France, until Sep 27, 1993, covers his work in the period 1907-1964. It covers furniture and architecture of all standards, but lacks historical and biographical information, which makes understanding of Rietveld's work difficult. However, it deals with many aspects of his life which have had very little attention to date.

Ando's evolution from austerity to opulence
Article Abstract:
Japanes architect, Tadeo Ando has designed an exhibition illustrating his major works. Concentrating on work done in the years from 1988, the exhibition charts Ando's move away from austere buildings of concrete to an opulent style using a variety of materials. The exhibition is poorly displayed, lacking natural light which is an important element of Ando's work. It is also divorced from Ando's environment in Japan.
