Dora Maar
Article Abstract:
Dora Maar was born in 1907 and met Pablo Picasso in 1936, becoming his model and mistress. She helped Picasso in practical details and influenced his political views. Picasso also continued an affair with a previous mistress and came to see Maar as epitomising sorrow. She was depicted as weeping in his work 'Guernica', and in other works where she was portrayed alone. When Maar separated from Picasso she focused on her own painting, yet did not show her works. She became involved in religion and lived the life of a recluse until she died in 1997.
