AT&T profit climbed 58% for quarter

AT&T Corp. posted a 58% increase in its earnings for the fourth-quarter of 1998. However, the company admitted that it is struggling to sign partnerships with cable firms that are critical to its strategy for local telephone services. During the fourth-quarter, AT&T posted $2 billion in earnings. This comes out to $1.12 per share. During the same period in 1997, the company posted $1.26 billion in earnings.
