Testing times for the tigers' telecoms
Article Abstract:
The Asian telecoms market was affected by devaluations which hit the revenues of companies paid in local currencies, and made their debt burden more onerous as it is priced mainly in dollars. Companies have seen slower growth and some firms have gone bankrupt. Stock prices have dropped, nut larger telecoms firms, which may have monopoly power, have remained strong. Deregulation has been accelerated and foreign interest has increased. There have been some setbacks to investments, but the telecoms revolution has been speeded up.
