BPL POSTS 11.4% DECLINE IN NET
Article Abstract:
BPL Ltd has registered a 11.4 percent decline in net profit to Rs29.05 crore in the third quarter ended December 31, 1998 against Rs32.77 crore in the third quarter of 1997-98. Its sales came down by 6.7 percent to Rs518 crore from Rs555 crore while gross profit increased by 3.24 percent to Rs36.95 crore from Rs35.79 crore. The company's depreciation charges increased to Rs4.90 crore from Rs3.02 crore. The industrial unrest at some of its units in Bangalore has also affected production and sales. Its net profit increased by 6.3 percent to Rs70.17 crore during April-December 1998 against Rs66.03 crore during April-December 1997. Sales of colour television set increased by 29 percent to 6.14 lakh units during April-December 1998. (khr)

ITI, India's largest producer of telecommunication equipment, made a turnover of Rs425 crore in the first half ended September 30, 1998 (Rs297.40 crore in the same period of 1997- 98) - up by 42.90 percent. It also reduced its losses from Rs52.59 crore to Rs30 crore. It produced goods worth Rs570 crore. (uh)
