RIDING HIGH, MUNJAL SHOWA TO ISSUE BONUS

Munjal Showa Limited (MSL), an auto ancillary, has plans of offering bonus shares to its shareholders. The market is expecting a 1:1 issue as MSL has a small equity base of Rs3.99 crore and an earnings per share of Rs34. MSL is expected to post a 15 percent rise in its net sales to Rs40 crore during April- June 1998 (Rs36 crore in the corresponding period in 1997). The net profit for the period is expected to increase by 30 percent to Rs3.5 crore (Rs2.7 crore). MSL supplies front forks, shock absorbers and struts to Hero Honda Motors and Maruti Udyog Ltd. (ag)

Munjal Showa, an auto ancillary unit, has increased its net profit by 36 percent to Rs3.3 crore on a turnover of Rs34 crore in the first quarter of 1998-99. This gives an earnings per share of about Rs10. The company makes struts, shock absorbers, front forks and gas-spring window balancers in collaboration with Showa of Japan. The company is expected to post a net profit of Rs16-18 crore on a turnover of Rs170-180 crore in 1998-99. (khr)

Munjal Showa (MS) made a net profit of Rs3.33 crore in the first quarter of 1998-99 (Rs2.45 crore in the same period of 1997-98). Its annualised earning per share was Rs8.32. It paid dividend of 35 percent for 1997-98. It is a major supplier of auto components to Hero Honda. It is a joint venture of Munjal and Showa of Japan. (rk)
