RPG PLANS TO BE FIRST TO MAKE VITAMIN B2
Article Abstract:
The RPG group has applied to the Government of India for producing vitamin B2 bulk drug and two anti-cancer drugs. The project will be implemented by Searle India which will be renamed as RPG Life Science. The RPG group plans to lease the fermentation line of Hindustan Antibiotics Ltd at Pune. It plans to produce 100 tonnes per annum (tpa) of vitamin B2 bulk drug. Around 40 tpa will be allocated for exports. RPG is likely to earn $5 million from sale of the drug. It has tied up with an Italian company for the technology. Searle India is commissioning its pilot plant and laboratory at Ankleshwar in August 1998. The technology from the Italian partner will be tested in the pilot plant. Production will commence by 2000 AD. RPG's Life Science division is likely to post a turnover of Rs500 crore by 2001 AD. MacNeal-Schwendler Corporation (MSC), a leading engineering software firm, plans to set up a fully owned subsidiary in India during 1999. MSC plans to invest Rs5 crore towards expanding its operations in India. It has already opened a liaison office in Bangalore. Tata Elxsi has been appointed as distributor for its products. NAL FLIES WORLD'S FIRST WANKEL MICROLIGHT

National Aerospace Laboratories (NAL) has test flown Altair. Altair, a hang glider, has a 35 horse power (HP) Wankel rotary engine, a microlight fuel efficient flying power plant. NAL proposes to transfer the engine technology to two companies. The technology will be used for producing unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for reconnaissance in defence and in single seater helicopters. (ag)
