Railway unions strike in France and Germany

FGAAC (Federation Generale Autonome des Agents de Conduite), France's train drivers' union, has begun a strike to protest cuts in retirement packages. They were joined by German train drivers' union GDL (Gewerkschaft Deutscher Lokfuhrer), who are protesting both salary and pension changes.

French, German strikes set to disrupt rail service
Article Abstract:
Germany and France are facing strikes by railroad employees in protest over pay raises and pension plans. The strikes target both passenger trains and goods transport. Analysts do not expect the strikes to seriously damage either country's economy unless they last for many weeks.

French jobless rate falls to 8.4 percent but data reliability is questioned

Economic growth continues in France as the unemployment rate fell to 8.4 percent in February, 2007. However, the reliability of the statistics is being considered as there was a low turnout at the polls. The unemployment figure is the lowest in 25 years.
