Canada's Reform Party, founded in 1989 in response to middle-class conservative issues, has lost popularity due to extreme views expressed by some of its members and internal bickering. Analysts contend that Reform should join the Conservative Party to make only one right-wing front.

Premiers from the Canadian provinces met in Calgary, Alberta, to discuss national unity. They drew up an initiative that allow any province the option of being its own government or society if such provisions were made in a new constitution.
