Only a few employers answer the call to telecommute
Article Abstract:
The concept of telecommuting or working at home has found its place in the American workplace but it still has to gain acceptance in Asia. For instance, only 0.6% of employers in Singapore allow their employees to telecommute, and most of these firms are multinational corporations. The reluctance of Asian employers to implement a telecommuting policy stems from a corporate culture where managers expect to see their employees every working day. Despite its low acceptance among Asian employers, US studies show that telecommuting employees' productivity rose by 10% to 20%.
