Telepiu seeks accord with its pay-TV rivals in Italy

Telepiu SpA, the Italian unit of Paris, France-based Canal Plus SA, is hoping to convince pay-TV rivals, telephone operator Telecom Italia SpA and Italian state broadcaster RAI Radiotelevisione Italiana, to be its partners in the digital multichannel service, D+. Michel Thoulouze, Telepiu's chairman and of Canal Plus international operations, said Canal Plus is willing to give its Italian rivals a 30% stake in D+. Thoulouze added that it would be cost-efficient for the companies involve to work together on a common venture.

Viacom's MTV aims to launch Italian radio station this year
Article Abstract:
Viacom Inc.'s MTV Italy operation announced that it is planning to begin the network's first ever radio station. MTV has no radio stations operating anywhere in the world. MTV hopes to launch the station by the end of 1999. According to Antonio Campo Dall' Orto, the head of MTV in Spain, Portugal, and Greece, the station is engaged in talks with four possible radio network partners.
