Renault sees Dacia of Romania as ally
Article Abstract:
Renault SA is considering an expansion of its market share outside Western Europe via an acquisition of lower-end brand Automobile Dacia SA of Romania. The state-controlled car manufacturer, a household name in Romania, is slated to be privatized by the end of 1998. Renault would gain a presence in Eastern Europe with such an acquisition, but analysts said that the acquirer's down-market focus may prove problems. Renault maintained that the plans for an offer for Dacia are yet to be made, but is anticipated to make a decision by early October 1998.
