Soup's on as Canuck consumption continues to climb

Canadian consumption of soups continue to increase. The Euromonitor, a global consumer market analyst, said Canadians consumed 5.81 liters per capita of soup compared with the UK's 5.40 liters, 4.88 liters of both France and the US. According to an industry source for the 52 weeks ending Oct. 11, 1997, Campbell Soup Co. was the No. 1 player, with 39.1% market share of the overall soup category; followed by President's Choice and Master's Choice, 24.7%; Thomas J. Lipton, 10.7%; and H.J. Heinz Co. of Canada, 2.6%.

Tennis Canada VP for marketing Stacey Allaster has contributed much to the sports in Canada. Since she took over the position in 1995, there has been a 90% increase in sponsorship revenues, a figure which reflects an average of 18% annually on the men's side and around 250% on the women's side. Average viewership rose by 164% on the women's side and 70% on the men's side while domestic television ratings went up as well.
