Rethinking thinking
Article Abstract:
Economists are starting to use insights from psychology to help understand human economic behavior. Markets have been found to be less efficient than was thought in the late 1970s. People may not link different items of information, and may fail to see the whole picture. They may believe that they succeed as investors because of their skills, though luck may have been more important. There may be a desire to be rational, despite mistakes, and people may be able to learn how to behave more rationally.

The Versace controversy
Article Abstract:
The controversy over the death of fashion designer Gianni Versace, especially the emphasis on his flamboyant lifestyle, reflects America's ambivalence towards celebrity and new ideas. Although Italian by birth, Versace is as much a product of American culture, his own cosmopolitan tastes blending nicely with the mixture of culture that is America. Conservatives may reject Versace's colorful public life, but without doubt, Versace in a way embodies the vigor and eclecticism of American culture.
