A grey occasion
Article Abstract:
Eileen Gray, an architect's designer living and working in Paris from 1902 to 1976, was a unique figure, but this failed to come across in a lecture given recently by J. Stewart Johnson at the Thirties Society. She was untrained, but her work was often better than that of professionals, and the publication of her work in 'Architecture Vivante' was very influential. She moved towards Modernism in the 1920s, but never became involved in large-scale production.
