A rebuttal to Emiliani and Stec's specific points and further assessment of auctions' role in relationships is presented. The response presented indicates that reverse auction can play an important role in creating an environment of transparency, fairness and bilateral communications, which will in turn result in strengthening the relationships.

The issues related to reverse auctions and its role in developing buyer-supplier relationships is discussed. The study indicates that managers may be able to take advantage of economic pricing from reverse auction and at the same time retain the long-term benefits of relationship marketing.
