Rocco starts putting his stamp on Trusthouse Forte
Article Abstract:
Rocco Forte, CEO of Trusthouse Forte PLC, the British hotel and catering company founded by his father, Lord Forte of Ripley, the only Italian-born member of the House of Lords, claims he has no problem operating the company despite the presence of his father, who remains Trusthouse Forte's chairman. Rocco Forte expects to double the firm's size from its current $1.8 billion level by 1991, and analysts believe that his succession as CEO from his father has avoided the pitfalls of most other sons, having installed his own management team and developing strategies for expansion at both ends of the market. Forte's plans for the firm and the success the company has realized by continuation of the business philosophies of its founder are described.

From the cloistered world of Cambridge, a sharp sting of dissent
Article Abstract:
Ajit Singh, an economist at Queens' College in Cambridge, England, is a member of the group at the college that believes government intervention is necessary in the market economy to a much greater extent than is currently practiced by the U.S., Great Britain, and most other Western countries. Singh claims that the policies of the International Monetary Fund can lead to disaster for developing nations because the austerity required of the policies can mean their downfall due to the resulting disenchantment of the population. Singh's economic beliefs for developing nations and how they differ from the advice of the IMF are discussed, and his theories on economic development in general are described.
