Rome-based bank IMI sold
Article Abstract:
The sale of Istituto Mobiliare Italiano (IMI), investment bank and financial services group of Italy, has been completed by the treasury miistry. IMI and SBC Warburg managed the operation via marketed block trade to Italian and foreign institutional investors. Controlling interest was obtained by three public sector banks following a private placement in 1995, and the incomplete privatisation emphasises the continued potential for privatisations in the banking system.
