Rome endorses dairy and ACEA sales
Article Abstract:
The citizens of Rome, Italy, were invited to vote on proposals to privatise the Centrale del Latte by turning it into a joint stock corporation, and also on privatising the electricity and water utility, ACEA. These proposals had been vigorously opposed by the right wing and neo-fascist parties in Italy, but of the 35% of the electorate who voted, one quarter voted in favour of the proposals. Four companies have put in offers for the Centrale del Latte and the successful bid will be announced in early July 1997. The company will own a 75% stake in the dairy.
