Roots Air likely grounded for good

Roots Air on May 4, 2001 discontinued operations after Toronto, Canada- based Skyservice Investments and Montreal-based Air canada announced a strategic alliance. Roots Air, which owns 20% interest in Skyservice, will be relaunched as a discount carrier under Air Canada. The agreement between Skyservice and Air Canada means Canada's biggest airline can now compete in the low-cost sector of the market later in 2001. After only six weeks, Roots Air has been grounded for failing to generate needed revenue.

Sun move restricts CanWest's reach

CanWest Global Communications' move to discontinue its print advertising campaign in the Sun Media newspaper chain is expected to have a serious effect to the company's overall reach. The decision by the Winnipeg, Manitoba-based media firm was made as a means of raising revenues by reducing advertising costs and focusing on its own advertising resources. CanWest Global's decision is also expected to have a tremendous impact on Sun Media's sales volume.
