Rothschild calls for greater Lottery philanthropy
Article Abstract:
It is now time for individuals to join together to form 'not-for-profit trusts' to seek National Lottery funding, according to Lord Rothschild, chairman of the National Heritage Memorial Fund. Lottery funding is readily available for appropriate schemes. Those which show a strong entrepreneurial spirit are likely to be particularly successful. He has also called for Lottery funds to be used to open up to the public the south block of Somerset House in London, England.

Allies and Morrison benefits from latest Arts lottery cash
Article Abstract:
Allies and Morrison has won lottery support for two major schemes, to improve access and develop studio space at The Place in Euston, London, a contemporary dance venue, and a project for the New Everyman Theatre in Liverpool. Other successful practices included The Jubilee Arts company for its arts technology centre project. Also Michael Reardon Associates, for a study into a planned performing arts centre to be used by Warwick Foundation schools.

World Squares for All aims to tame the car
Article Abstract:
Foster & Partners has revealed proposals to reduce car bound traffic around Whitehall and its immediate environs, which could result in a true 'World Square for All'. The plans are available for public consultation via an exhibition, and they involve two strategies, both of which attempt to empower the pedestrian and public transport. The cost would be 20-40 million pounds sterling.
