Bitter pill
Article Abstract:
Asia's economies rely heavily on electronics, with electronics accounting for around 50% of Malaysia's exports, for example, and around half of Singapore's entire GDP. However, the future of the electronics industry is becoming increasingly uncertain. Chip prices have declined dramatically, and there are no innovative new products currently under development which could serve to boost the industry's fortunes. Many observers now believe that the Asian electronics industry will face a period of consolidation.

Growth cycles: Taiwan bicycle maker shifts gears to stay ahead
Article Abstract:
Taiwan's bicycle company Giant Manufacturing is trying to adjust to declining markets in the US and Europe by working on new bicycle designs and producing bikes abroad. Giant did well by catering to the expanding market for mountain bikes in the early 1990s and by promoting these bikes in the Netherlands. Now as the market declines, Giant is working on research and development, expanding exports, and producing bikes in countries, such as China, where many bikes are sold.
