The UK government can ill afford to alienate the media with the upcoming general election, but has nonetheless failed to take any steps towards producing a white paper on privacy. The appointment of Lord Wakeham to head the Press Complaints Commission with his plan to reorganize the commission has further irritated the newspaper industry.
