Russian TV head's murder linked to ad sales reform
Article Abstract:
The murder of Vladislav Listyev, acting general manager of Russian Public Television, the state television station, could have been due to his plans to introduce stricter controls on advertising revenue to curb fraud. Many journalists believe the mafia carried out the killing. The station, formerly known as the Ostankino TV network, has advertising revenue of around $360 million a year, although most of this is taken by people with mafia links. Listyev was one of the most well known television journalists in Russia.

Russian ad industry ignores Yeltsin tobacco, alcohol ban
Article Abstract:
Ostankino Television of Russia, the state owned TV channel, had stated it would suspend all tobacco and alcoholic beverage advertising, until strict guidelines are established to regulate advertisments. This follows President Boris Yeltsin's decree banning tobacco and alcoholic beverage advertising. However Ostankino may not suspend all advertising as it has several long term agreements with advertisers. Advertising agencies believe that the new rules cannot be acted on immediately as they are too vague.
