It is difficult to predict who will win the Jun 1996 presidential election in Russia. The leading candidates, incumbent Boris Yeltsin and Communist Party leader Gennady Zyuganov, are vying for support from the other candidates. Support for Yeltsin is increasing despite his health concerns.

There will be a runoff election in Russia between Pres Boris Yeltsin and Gennady Zyuganov, with Yeltsin favored to win. Yeltsin has helped his chances by appointing Alexander Lebed, a candidate who received 15% of the vote, as his security adviser.
