SAIL JOINS ULSAB-AVC CONSORTIUM OF 28 Cos
Article Abstract:
Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has now joined the ultra light steel auto body - advanced vehicle concepts (Ulsab- AVC) consortium. The consortium has 28 steel producing members across the world. The group helps automotive industry in working out steel-based solutions for long-term challenges. Ulsab-AVC will work towards developing a new advanced steel automotive vehicle architecture. It will take up a programme which aims at demonstrating innovative use of steel in auto applications aimed at functional and societal benefits. This involves environmental responsibility through energy and resource efficiency, safety through design and material selection, high volume production through established and innovative manufacturing techniques, inherent affordability through modern manufacturing technologies and low cost of ownership. TISCO TEAMING UP WITH BROKEN HILL, KRAKATAU FOR ULSAB
Article Abstract:
A consortium has been created by Tata Iron and Steel Company (Tisco), Broken Hill Proprietory of Australia and Krakatau of Indonesia for the Ultra Light Steel for Automobile Body (Ulsab) project. The project, which is to develop a new generation steel body for automobiles, is promoted by the International Iron & Steel Institute of Brussels along with 35 steel firms from 20 countries. Porsche Engineering Services of the US is the design consultant for the project. Ten car prototypes with the Ulsab technology have been created and one has been given to the Tisco consortium as demonstration hardware. Tests prove that the Ulsab technology can reduce weight by about 25 percent, achieve torsional rigidity of over 80 percent and bending rigidity of over 60 percent. (khr)

TISCO WILLING TO SELL CEMENT PLANTS FOR Rs600 CRORE
Article Abstract:
The selling price of the two cement plants of Tata Iron & Steel Company Limited (Tisco) located near Jamshedpur has been fixed at Rs600 crore. The two slag cement units are located at Jojobera in Bihar and Sonadih in Madhya Pradesh and have a combined capacity of 1.8 million tonne. But some domestic cement majors have evaluated the price of the twin plants at a lower Rs350 crore to Rs400 crore. (gsh)
