SISCOL CAPS STEEL PROJECT COST AT RS688 CRORE
Article Abstract:
The Southern Iron and Steel Company (Siscol), a joint venture of Lakshmi Machine Works Ltd (LMW) of Coimbatore and Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation Ltd (Tidco), has undertaken a steel project. It has limited the cost of the project at Rs688 crore. The company has obtained clearances from the State and Central pollution control authorities. It aims to trial-run its steel mill from mid-January 1999. It has arranged for the funds for its steel rolling facility through institutions and copromoters. Apart from this, it has to arrange for Rs44 crore through issue of equity shares to its current share holders through a rights issue. It has held talks with strategic partners and hopes to finalise deals by March 1999. (um)

PITRODA CO TO PUMP $50-60 M INTO TN NET PROJECT
Article Abstract:
World Tel Ltd of the UK, led by Mr Sam Pitroda, has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Tamil Nadu government to set up community Internet centres throughout the state. The centres will provide affordable access to information and communication facilities to the people of Tamil Nadu. The centres will be equipped with personal computers to offer business services like fax, PCO, photocopying, e-mail and e-commerce. World Tel plans to invest $50-60 million in the project if the market can justify that level of investment. The project involves setting up about 1000 centres each with investments of Rs10-15 lakh.
