SLOVAKIA: NEUSIEDLER TAKES STAKE IN SCP
Article Abstract:
Neusiedler, subsidiary of Austrian Frantschach and South African Mondi, is to take a 50% stake in the largest Slovakian paper producer Severoslovenske Celulozky a Papierne a.s. (SCP) for US$ 80mn, and may increase the stake to 51% later on. Until now, SCP was wholly owned by Eco-Invest. Within the next four years, the owners are to invest US$ 110mn in SCP to increase capacity to 400,000 t of wood-free uncoated paper and 350,000 t of bleached pulp. SCP employs 3,857 people in its four paper and pulp mills and produces a wide range of paper and pulp products.

AUSTRIA: CAUSE OF NEUSIEDLER FIRE
Article Abstract:
The fire at the Neusiedler papermill in Hausmening at the end of May 2001 was caused by paper falling of a pallet in the shrink furnace. The paper caught fire, which was spread by the automated transport system. The fire destroyed 8,500 tonnes of paper and caused damage worth Sch 500mn.

Article Abstract:
A fire at the logistics centre of Papierfabrik Neusiedler AG in Hausmening on 24 May 2001 destroyed about 8,500 tonnes of paper. The damage is estimated at up to Sch 500mn. The logistics centre with an automated warehouse completed two years ago was destroyed completely.
