SONY TO SET UP OWN COMPONENTS FACILITY IN INDIA
Article Abstract:
Sony of Japan, a consumer electronics producer, proposes to establish a components production unit in India. It also proposes to set up a greenfield unit for entertainment electronic products. The new investments are a part of Sony's strategy of becoming India's largest consumer electronics company in India. Sony has also started negotiations with the government of India regarding the tax implications for setting up the components project. The second unit will cater to the western and southern parts of India while the Daruhera unit will serve the northern and eastern part of India. It also proposes to increase its general portable audio segment and the mobile car stereo segment. It also hopes to post a sales of Rs500 crore during 1998-99. (ag)

KLR-CUBEX SET TO BEGIN PRODUCTION FROM MAY

KLR-Cubex Drilling Equipment International Ltd is starting its commercial production in May 1999. It is a joint venture of KLR Rigs Company of Hyderabad and Cubex International of Canada. It has been set up at a cost of $0.5 million. It will sell and service Cubex products in India. It will make blast hole drill rigs. It plans to enter the Asian and African markets through the international alliance of Cubex and Svedala of USA. It has secured 8 orders for its blast hole drill rigs from South Africa. (rk) (kvr)
