CENTRE PLANS TO OPEN UP TOURISM
Article Abstract:
The Government of India plans to permit the entry of private domestic and foreign companies in the tourism sector. It plans to increase the automatic approval limit for foreign direct investment in hotels and restaurants from 51 percent to 74 percent. It proposes to accord export house status to the tourism industry. Travel and tour operators will get all the incentives available to export houses. The government plans to encourage non-resident Indians to invest in low budget hotels to be set up on railway land. (gs)

RAILWAYS TO HAVE STAKE IN ALL REFINERY PROJECTS
Article Abstract:
Indian Railways has received permission to pick up stakes in all the proposed refining projects. From now, the railways will be offering land leases for underground pipelines for all the projects coming up in the private, public and the joint sectors. The move is aimed at facilitating complete utilisation of the capital assets of the railways and helping the refining companies to spend on the pipeline only when extra capacities are needed for transporting POL.
