SUGAR IMPORTS SEND PRICES CRASHING
Article Abstract:
Massive imports of sugar by traders are choking all the major ports in India and have brought domestic prices down by about Rs700 per tonne in the last one month. Sugar contracts of 11.73 lakh tonnes have been registered, out of which 5.66 lakh tonnes have been contracted from Pakistan. Over 7 lakh tonnes of sugar have already been imported into the country while the rest is being shipped in. Many ships are waiting at the ports of Calcutta, Cochin and Mumbai to unload their sugar cargo. (khr)
