OPERATORS HEAR MIXED TONES IN NEW RATES
Article Abstract:
The new telecom tariffs announced by the Telecom Regulatory of India has evoked a mixed reaction from the telecom operators. Some operators opine that the hike in monthly rentals would affect the low-end users. Others opine that the slashing of leased circuit rates would increase the usage of the Internet. They also opine that the low circuit rates would also reduce the V-Sat rates and discourage basic operators from setting up their own infrastructure. Cellular operators opine that their revenues would decrease as the new rates and the new plan works out to be cheaper for frequent users. Low airtime users will opt for pre- paid cards. (ag)(vr)
