SWISSCOM SEES INSOLVENCY RISK IN INDIA OPERATIONS
Article Abstract:
Swisscom, a joint venture partner of Essar, has told the government that its operations in India run the risk of becoming insolvent if corrective measures are not taken. Aircel Digilink India (ADI), a joint venture between Swisscom and the Essar group, has said that it cannot provide any additional security needed for deferring licence fee payment up to December 1998. Bankers have refused to give it additional funds without higher margin money. ADI has already invested Rs226 crore on cellular infrastructure by the end of 1997-98 and has accumulated losses of Rs82.96 crore. ADI holds the cellular licence for Harayana, Rajasthan and East Uttar Pradesh. (khr)

TCL, JTM LOCK HORNS IN AD WAR
Article Abstract:
Tata Communications Ltd (TCL) and JT Mobiles Ltd (JTM) in Andhra Pradesh are disputing with each other over an advertisement issue. JTM and TCL are the two leading licensed mobile service providers in the state. TCL has filed a case against JTM with the Consumer Complaint Council (CCC) of the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI). According to CCC the advertisement launched by JTM was misleading as JTM had mimicked the contents of TCL's advertisement. ASCI has now asked JTM to withdraw or change its advertisement. (gs) (khr)

JT Mobiles Ltd (JTM) and The Country Club (India) Limited have signed a pact to introduce Country Mobile, a new scheme for subscribers in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. Under the agreement, a subscriber of Country Mobile will get the life membership in Country Club by paying an amount of Rs25,000. The subscriber will have access to health club and other facilities in Bangalore and Hyderabad. (gs)
