Saatchi CEO gets results by using a personal touch

Saatchi & Saatchi PLC has promoted Kevin J. Roberts to CEO, effective Jan. 1, 1999. Roberts replaces Robert Seelert, 55, who is set to become the company's chairman. Roberts, who used to be a professional rugby player, joined Saatchi & Saatchi in May 1997 after getting a job at the firm's advertising division. Roberts, who declared that becoming a CEO was part of his game plan, stated that he aims to increase Saatchi & Saatchi's presence in the UK, China and the US and that he hopes to land another big international account soon.

Unilever touts detergent as allergy fighter in ads

Unilever will be promoting its All Free Clear laundry detergent in new advertisements that are designed to avoid criticism from advertising monitors with a cautionary warning. Unilever will promote the detergent as an "allergy medicine" as the Dutch-based firm exploits the fear among consumers of microscopic "dust mites." The new slogan for the All Free detergent is "The allergy medicine for you laundry." The print ads are targeted for individuals who are sensitive to detergents and allergens.
