Airlines no longer covet slots at Japan's airports as travel wanes
Article Abstract:
Foreign airlines have reduced their operations in Japanese airports following the Asian economic crisis. United Airlines, for instance, suspended its flights to Honolulu from Kansai Airport while Northwest suspended flights from Nagoya Airport to Guam. The Japanese are also cutting back on travel with tourist traffic from Japan falling by 6.5% from Jan to Oct 1998 and travel to Japan down by 3.2% for the same period.

Sino-Korean aircraft venture is close to unraveling as China plays hardball
Article Abstract:
The joint venture between South Korea's aircraft industry and China involving the construction of 100-seat planes is in danger of being called off as China has become adamant in its demand to maintain a dominant stake in the project. This situation is but symptomatic of the uneasy relationship existing between the two countries because of political disagreements and divergent economic status.
