Sauces, dressings & pickles in Italy
Article Abstract:
The Italian market for sauces, dressings and pickles is small compared with the UK and the US. The market has five broad categories, namely, wine vinegar, mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard and other sauces. In volume terms, wine vinegar remains the largest sector in the market while mayonnaise is the largest in value. Ketchup is the third most important sector at 6% volume share. Leading manufacturers of mayonnaise and ketchup are threatened by the introduction of cheaper own-label brands of major food retail chains. However, market stability is still predicted until the year 2000.
