The British insurance industry is becoming more competitive, as companies are realizing that consumers are paying much closer attention to surrender values. Premium payments are becoming more flexible to encourage policyholders to hold on to their policies through maturity.

The vice of thrift: saving is supposedly vital for economic growth. So why are some of the world's most reluctant savers prospering as more frugal countries struggle?
Article Abstract:
Saving is supposed to make economies stronger by making possible more investment and expansion. Current conditions belie that truism, however. America, which saves little, is booming, while tight East Asian economies are in crises. An analysis of this paradox is presented.

British life insurance firms had record sales during 1992, but some trends indicate uncertain times ahead. An increasing amount of new premiums are single payments instead of long-term ones. Other financial firms, such as banks, pose competition for personal savings.
