Savings in a spin
Article Abstract:
The United Kingdom government aims to encourage saving, especially among poorer people. Tax advantages of schemes such as personal equity plans (Peps) tended to benefit the better off, so the government has introduced changed such as the introduction of individual savings accounts (ISAs). Critics argue that ISAs are too complex for new savers. The government also aims to carry out pension reform, with greater support for the poor on low incomes, and carers. The pensions industry is concerned that changes such as higher taxes on private pensions and a planned stakeholder system could affect sales of private pensions.
