Scheduling multiprocessor tasks - an overview
Article Abstract:
A survey of the literature concerning multiprocessor task scheduling on parallel and dedicated processors is presented. The review, which encapsulates the results of research on nonpreemptive and preemptive scheduling in two tables, defines the problem in terms of the processor set, the parameters representing the task system and the optimality criterion. It also reviews the worst-case performance of heuristics for NP-hard problems.

Scheduling tasks and communications on a virtual distributed system
Article Abstract:
The problem of scheduling tasks subject to precedence constraints on a virtual distributed system (VDS) consisting of identical parallel processors with small communication delays was examined. Specifically, the polynomial VDS algorithm proposed by J.-Y. Colin for problems that allow task duplication and infinite processors was extended to solve the problem under stronger constraints.
