Scheduling staff using mixed integer programming
Article Abstract:
The development of a computer program for solving a workforce scheduling problem is discussed. The problem was to match the right number of employees at any time with the demand for service during that time. The solution involved the use of mixed-integer programming. It is now being run on the computer system of the client company who commissioned the program. The program is expected to benefit the company in terms of the establishment of a standard for the number of employees needed at a specific time, enhanced cost estimates and improved cost savings related to employee compensation.
