Science in fiction is not science fiction
Article Abstract:
Science has tended not to be portrayed well in fiction. Science fiction relies on fantasy, while science-in-fiction should be accurate. The language of science is often not accessible enough for fiction, so it is not easy to make science the central aspect of fiction. Michael Frayn's 'Copenhagen' and Carl Djerassi's 'An Immaculate Conception' are examples of successful plays with science as the main subject, while Simon Mawer createsa memorable character in 'Mendel's Dwarf.'

The science of Hallowe'en
Article Abstract:
There are a number of scientific explanations for phenomena associated with Hallowe'en. Vampirism could be linked to the condition porphyria, and rabies may be linked to myths of werewolves, since wolves can cause rabies by biting humans. Witchcraft could be linked to usage of hallucinogenic drugs, and zombies may be created by using a poison. The affected person is revived using an antidote, and is then convinced that they have been resurrected from death.
