Scottish and Newcastle declines new bid but opens up to talks

The UK's Scottish and Newcastle Breweries PLC declined a sweetened bid from Heineken N.V. and Carlsberg A/S, but announced that it has decided to consider the matter at a higher price. Heineken and Carlsberg had raised their takeover offer to 780 pence per share; Scottish and Newcastle states it will enter talks with a firm proposal of 800 pence per share.
