Search for quality in Scottish architecture
Article Abstract:
The Glasgow Institute of Architects (GIA) presents awards to outstanding buildings that are new or converted, on the basis of function, design and aesthetics. The awards cover all categories of buildings, the largest being the residential award. There are also awards made to students along with buildings awards. Buildings being considered for an award in 1997 include shopping centre redevelopments, ticket offices and hotels, all of which show the attention to detail and innovative design that architects in Scotland are striving for.

Learning from experience
Article Abstract:
The British Council for Offices and Architects' Journal sponsored a conference entitled 'Designing Tomorrow's Office' at the RIBA on Feb 5, 1998. Considerable emphasis was placed on the fact that this conference brought together occupiers, developers and designers. The question of what makes an office building a success or a failure was addressed through case studies and workshops. Issues discussed included the sociological and psychological factors associated with office building design and location.
